Recreational boating advice – COVID -19

We know you love to get out on the water. If you’re one of the State’s 100,000 recreational boat owners, or simply enjoy the State’s waterways using other craft, find out what you need to know from our frequently asked questions below.

Can I go boating?

Yes, recreational boating is allowed throughout WA without passenger limits (other than the loading capacity of a vessel).

When boating, don’t forget to maintain good personal hygiene, this includes using hand sanitiser where there is contact with shared surfaces.

Safety should be your priority so remember to tell someone where you are going,  check the weather conditions and wear a lifejacket. Get the Deckee boating app for up to date information about boating throughout WA.

Can I go kiteboarding, windsurfing, kayaking or take out my paddle craft?

Yes, kiteboarding, windsurfing, kayaking and paddling are allowed.

If I go out boating what do I need to remember?

To keep yourself and others safe, always maintain physical distancing where possible.

It’s also important to tell someone where you are going,  remember to check the weather conditions and always wear a lifejacket.

Should I do anything different at the launch ramp?

Be courteous at the ramp, maintain good personal hygiene at all times, this includes using hand sanitiser where there is contact with shared surfaces.

What are the rules for charter boats?

On commercial vessels, including fishing charters and tourism vessels, and also boats used for the purposes of transport (e.g. ferries) everyone should maintain physical distancing, where possible, and practise good personal hygiene.

Do regional travel restrictions apply to boats?

No regional travel restrictions are currently in place.

Yes, recreational boating at Rottnest Island and its surrounding waters is not currently restricted.

Are DoT maritime facilities open?

Yes. Practise good personal hygiene and use the Safe WA app or enter your contact details on the visitor register.
